Big Blue Men's Volleyball Felled by Loras

The Big Blue men's volleyball team took on the Duhawks of Loras College on Sunday, March 21 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. The Duhawks defeated Millikin in straight sets. 

Millikin was led at the net by Peter Sailsman and Jakob Henderson with nine kills apiece. Chelan Beavers added three kills. Jose Gallardo notched 18 assists, two blocks, and a service ace. Colby Campbell and Michael Anderson both added three blocks, and Fred Halper led Millikin in digs with 12. 

Patrick Mahoney and Jake Filotto each tallied seven kills for the Duhawks. 

Millikin jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, starting with a kill from Henderson and followed by two attacking errors by Loras. The Duhawks quickly took the lead with a 7-0 run with Filotto behind the service line. The Big Blue rallied back with a block by Campbell and Gallardo, pulling the score within three. Loras used a 5-0 run highlighted by two service aces to sercure the 18-25 first set win over the Big Blue. 

The second set saw a similar story with Loras jumping out to another early lead. A kill by Sailsman pulled the Big Blue within two, and a block on a Filotto attack by Anderson put MU within one, with a score of 7-8. The Duhawks rounded out set two and an 18-25 win over Millikin with a service ace by David Beach.

In set three, the Big Blue fought back from being down 1-7 early but a 5-0 run rally late in the game wasn't enough to extend the match. Loras took down Millikin 19-25 in set three to complete the straight set victory over the Big Blue.

Millikin men's volleyball will take the court again on Wednesday, March 24 when ranked North Central comes to town.
