Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Morgan Vogels

Men's Volleyball Felled by 11th Ranked North Central

The Big Blue men's volleyball team matched up against the eleventh ranked North Central Cardinals on Monday, March 29 in a makeup game after the match originally scheduled for March 24 was postponed. In the home contest for Millikin, they were defeated in straight sets by the Cardinals.

For Millikin, Cristobal Gonzalez and Jakob Henderson led the attack at the net with seven kills apiece. Chelan Beavers tallied two blocks for MU, and Robbie Maida was the assists leader with 23. Fred Halper tallied nine digs for the Big Blue.

The first set was all North Central, starting the set off on a 4-0 run capped off with a service ace by Gabriel Aguado. After a kill by Jose Gallardo, the Cardinals regained control of the game and went on a 9-1 run. They closed out an 8-25 victory in set one.

The second set saw a tighter contest. Kills from Henderson and Beavers kept things close early in the game. Down 9-17, the Big Blue clawed their way within seven on a kill by Gonzalez. After widening the gap once again, MU took advantage of four attacking errors in a row by the Cardinals, including a block by Gallardo to come within six at 16-22. Kills by Gonzalez and Sanchez extended the game, but North Central took set two 18-25.

In set three, the game was tied seven times, but the Big Blue did not hold a lead. A block by Beavers tied the set at 14 and gave MU momentum. A second block by Beavers just points later put Millikin within one. It was not enough to take a set from the eleventh ranked Cardinals, and North Central completed the straight set sweep with a 22-25 victory.

Ben Williams led the Cardinals with 10 kills, and Ben Pluskota added seven.

The Big Blue men's volleyball team will face another tough conference opponent in second ranked Carthage College on Thursday, April 1 at the Griswold Center.
