Big Blue Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Kohawks

          The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader with Coe College on March 7 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois. Millikin won game one 8-6 and fell in the nightcap 9-0. The Big Blue are now 5-1 on the season while Coe is 1-1.
          For the second day in a row Millikin right fielder Frank Bryan hit a three-run home run in the first inning to put the Big Blue out in front.
          Millikin went up 5-0 in the third inning with a two-run rally highlighted by a run scoring single from Andrew Auton.
          Coe scored three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to make it a 5-4 game. The Big Blue answered back with three runs in its half of the fifth to go up 8-4. Bryan had a two run double in the inning and Jacob Havis had an RBI single for Millikin.
 Coe made it interesting with two runs in the eighth on RBI singles by TJ Johnson and Luke Smailes.
          Bryan ended the game going 2-4 with six RBI. Havis and Gabe Soria each had two hits for the Big Blue. Tanner Coleman was the winning pitcher throwing five innings and allowing six hits, four runs (one earned). Evan Lawrence threw the final four innings allowing four hits and two earned runs to pick up the save.
          TJ Deardorff and Jordan Kaplan each had two hits for Coe.
          The second game was all Kohawks with Coe pounding out nine hits and stealing eight bases. TJ Johnson went 2-3 at the plate with an inside the park homerun and two RBI. Johnson was the winning pitcher allowing three hits in five shutout innings. Leadoff man Isaac Evans was 2-4 with four stolen bases and three runs scored.
