Millikin Baseball Sweeps Twin Bill

The Millikin baseball team swept a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader from Wheaton College on April 2 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur.  The Big Blue won game one 7-4 won took the nightcap 4-2.
 
In game one, the Big Blue jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Gabe Soria opened the game with a walk and scored on an RBI single from Frank Bryan. Garrett Fritz hit a solo home run in the fourth to make it a 2-0 Millikin lead.
 
Millikin pitchers walked eight batters in game one and the Thunder took advantage in the fifth scoring on a bases loaded walk and a run scoring single from Ben Weaver to tie the game at 2-2.
 
Millikin jumped back in front 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Brent Beals had an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch.
 
Each team would score two runs in the sixth. Tommy Shaw and Beals had RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth for Millikin. Millikin added an insurance run in the seventh on a RBI single from Mason McGahey.
 
Shaw and Beals each had two hits for Millikin in game one. Weaver and Joel Pierce had a pair of hits for the Thunder. Evan Lawrence was the winning pitcher in relief throwing the final four innings of the game allowing three hits and two earned runs.
 
Game two was a pitchers' duel between Millikin's Caleb Buehrle and Wheaton's Sam Arnold. Buehrle was the winning pitcher throwing eight innings allowing eight hits and two earned runs while striking out nine. Beals pitched the ninth inning for Millikin to earn the save. Arnold threw seven strong innings for Wheaton allowing five hits and two runs (one earned).
 
Millikin scored an unearned run in the first as Beals drove in the run. Beals would deliver another RBI single in the Millikin fifth.
 
Wheaton tied the game with two runs in the seventh. Harrison Stanton had an RBI triple and scored on a single from Noah Yi. The Big Blue scored the game winning runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Beals opened the inning with a single and scored on a double from Bryan. Fritz doubled home Bryan to make it 4-2 Millikin.
 
Beals had three hits in game two and Andrew Auton went 2-4 with a double. 
 
Graham Core, Stanton and Yi all had two hits in game two for Wheaton.
 
Millikin is now 14-3 overall and 7-2 and in first place in the CCIW. Wheaton is 6-8, 3-5. The two teams will play a doubleheader on April 3 in Wheaton.
