Millikin Baseball Finishes Sweep of Thunder

After winning the doubleheader at home on Friday, the Millikin baseball team made it a swept of the four game series defeating Wheaton College twice on April 3 in Wheaton, Illinois. Millikin won game one 9-6 and took the second game 28-5 in seven innings.
 
In game one, Garrett Fritz hit his second home run in as many days to put the Big Blue up 1-0 in the top of the second. Wheaton answered back with a five run bottom of the second inning to go up 5-1. The Big Blue cut the lead to 5-4 in the fifth inning scoring three runs including a leadoff home run from Andrew Auton. The game was tied at 5-5 heading into the eighth inning. Auton again homered for Millikin this time with a man on base to make it 7-5 Millikin. Wheaton cut the lead to 7-6 before Millikin added two insurance runs in the ninth on a two-run home run from Brent Beals.
 
Beals finished the game 2-4 at the plate with a homer and double with three RBI and three runs scored. Auton, Kyle Kane and Tommy Shaw each had two hits for Millikin.
 
Sam Reichert led Wheaton in game one going 3-5.
 
Jared Buzan was the winning pitcher for Millikin in relief throwing two innings allowing two hits. Beals picked up his sixth save of the season.
 
The second game was all Big Blue with Millikin scoring 11 runs in the first inning. Kyle Kane and Lucas Ryan led the offensive attack. Ryan went 3-3 with a triple with four RBI and four runs scored. Kane was 3-6 with three runs scored and three RBI. Bryan and Jacob Havis each picked up two hits and two RBI. Drew Sutton was the winning pitcher in relief throwing three scoreless innings allowing on two hits.
 
Millikin is now 16-3, 9-2 and in first place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
