Men's Tennis Edged by Augustana in Conference Match

The Big Blue men's tennis faced their second conference opponent in two days on Saturday, April 3. Back home at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex, Millikin took on Augustana College and were edged 4-5. 

MU picked up one doubles victory in the second doubles match to finish. James Broach and Cory Erickson defeated Leonardo Panosso and Ryan Sullivan 8-3 at #3. The win evened the score after Alvaro Leal and Caio DeRezende started things off at #2 doubles defeating Holden Owens and Clayton Maack 2-8. The final doubles match to finish up saw Jacob Palley and Nick Laramee fall to Kyle Boudreau and Peter Alex of Augustana 4-8. 

The Vikings added to their lead with the first match to finish in singles play. Eliot St. Paul defeated Erickson at #4 1-6, 3-6 to put the Vikings up 1-3. The Big Blue chipped away at the lead when Owens took down Panosso 6-1, 6-4 at #3. The next match to finish saw Broach defeated by Justin Cassens 0-6, 3-6 at #5. Sealing the victory with their fifth win of the day, Palley fell to DeRezende at #1 2-6, 1-6.

The final two matches to finish both ended in Millikin's favor. Justin Caldwell stepped in at #6 and earned a win against Jessee Dyer 6-3, 2-6, 10-7. Maack also claimed victory at #2 with a defeat of Alex 6-3, 5-7, 10-6. 

Millikin men's tennis will be back in action at home on Friday, April 9 when they take on the Firebirds of Carthage College in a CCIW matchup.
