Women's Volleyball Defeats North Park in Straight Sets

Box Score The Big Blue women's volleyball team traveled to Chicago, Ill. on Monday, April 5 to play their first game since March 31. It was the first time the team was able to play with the entire active roster together in three weeks. Some key players have only been able to practice 3-4 times in the last three weeks, but MU banded together to pick up the sweep of North Park, winning sets 25-18, 25-21, 25-22.

Tori Stuart led the Big Blue with 14 kills, and Kamryn Flesner added nine. Both Stuart and Flesner had some key swings that that helped give Millikin the momentum needed to earn the victory. Sarah Bingenheimer tallied 32 assists in the match, and Alyssa Vignos notched 20 digs. Flesner aced the Vikings three times, and Bingenheimer and Vignos each served up two aces apiece.

In a game that saw North Park putting the pressure on Millikin especially during the second and third sets, the Big Blue passed and blocked well to help overcome serving struggles. The last two points of the match came with back to back stuff blocks by Jessi Kreder and Lauren Brummel.

In addition, Vignos' efforts in serve receive helped set up the Millikin offense for success.

The Big Blue's match scheduled for Tuesday, April 6 against Greenville University has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocol. Millikin women's volleyball will be back in action at the AVCA Invitational Championship Tournament in Indianapolis on Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10.
