Millikin Baseball Splits with Vikings

The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader with Augustana College on May 1 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois.  The Vikings won game one 2-1 while Millikin won game two 4-2.
 
After losing a heartbreaker in game one, the Big Blue rallied to get back on track after a short losing streak. Augustana opened the game one scoring in its first at-bat. Matt Ozanic tripled home Mitchell Owens who had doubled.
 
Millikin broke through with a single run in the when Frank Bryan who lead off the inning with a walk scored on a wild pitch. Millikin took the lead 2-1 in the sixth. Bryan opened the inning with a single and later scored on a Vikings errant throw.  Millikin got two insurance runs in the seventh when Kyle Kane delivered a two out bases loaded two-run single.  Kane had two hits for the Big Blue in the game.
 
Caleb Buehrle pitched a complete game gem for the Big Blue allowing only four hits and two earned runs over nine innings while striking out six. It was Buehrle's second complete game of the season as he improves to 4-2 on the season.
 
Game one was a pitcher duel between Millikin starter Adam Zuk and Augustana starter Matt Hoban.  Zuk pitched seven innings allowing four hits and no runs with four strike outs.  Hoban held Millikin hitless for seven innings. He finished the game giving up two hits and one earned run.
 
With no scored in the game, Garrett Fritz led off the bottom of the eighth inning for Millikin with a single.  After pinch runner Austin Wombacher stole second, Tommy Shaw delivered a run scoring single to make it 1-0 Big Blue.
 
The Vikings rallied with two run in the top of the ninth to pull out the win. Chase Maifield had a run scoring single and Alex Simon drew a bases loaded walk to drive home the second run.
 
Millikin is now 20-10, 13-9 while Augustana goes to 25-6, 17-6.
