Big Blue Baseball Rolls over Titans

The Millikin baseball team opened its final regular season series of the season with a 12-0 romp at Illinois Wesleyan University on May 14 in Bloomington. The two teams will complete the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur.
 
Millikin got on the board in the third inning. Andrew Auton opened the inning with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Tommy Shaw.
The Big Blue added two more runs in the fourth inning. Frank Bryan leadoff with a single and scored on a two-run home run from Brent Beals. Millikin added to its lead with two runs in the eighth with the help of two Titans' errors. Kyle Kane had an RBI double in the inning.
 
Millikin broke open the game with a seven run ninth inning. Auton opened the inning with his second double of the game and scored on an RBI single from Shaw. An Illinois Wesleyan error lead to Millikin's second run of the inning. Bryan then added a two-run single to make it a 9-0 game. Kane tripled home two runs and Tanner Coleman had an RBI ground out to close out the Millikin offensive outburst.
 
Shaw was 4-4 for the Big Blue. Beals, Kane, Auton and Mason McGahey each had two hits for Millikin. Evan Ranneklev and Jared Mutter each had two hits for Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Millikin Head Coach Brandon Townsend used the game to lineup his pitching for the upcoming College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament. The Big Blue will open tournament action on Wednesday, May 19. Adam Zuk started for Millikin pitching three innings allowing one hit while striking out four. Caleb Buehrle followed with four scoreless innings allowing four hits while striking out five. Buehrle was credited with the win improving to 5-3 on the season. Evan Lawrence pitched a scoreless eighth inning allowing one hit. Drew Sutton pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the win.
 
Millikin is now 25-13 overall and 18-12 in conference play. Illinois Wesleyan is now 17-21, 12-18.
