Millikin Baseball Wins Twice, Sets School Record for Wins

The Millikin baseball team won a pair of games over Illinois Wesleyan 4-2 and 7-6 on May 15 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur. The wins gave the Big Blue a record of 27-13 for the season setting a new school record for wins in a season. The old record was 25-15 set in 2003.

The Big Blue finished College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play with a record of 20-12 in this year's special 32 game conference schedule. The 20 wins in the most CCIW in Millikin baseball history.
 
Millikin's three wins over the Titans this weekend and a victory earlier in the season give the Big Blue a sweep of the season series. The two teams will meet for a fifth time in the first round of the CCIW Tournament on Wednesday, May 19 at 3:30 p.m. at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Millikin is the three seed in the tournament while Illinois Wesleyan is the six seed.
 
In game one on Saturday, the Big Blue won 4-2. Millikin opened the scoring in the fourth inning a solo home run by Frank Bryan. Brent Beals opened the Millikin sixth with a single and was sacrificed to second. Andrew Auton then put the Big Blue up 2-0 with an RBI single.
 
The Titans tied the game in the seventh. Jacob Cyrus had a sacrifice fly for the Titans and the second runs scored after a Millikin error.
 
Millikin scored the game winning runs in the eighth inning. Gabe Soria opened with a double and advanced on a Bryan single. Soria scored after a Titan error with the RBI going to Auton. Garrett Fritz singled home the fourth run to make it 4-2.
 
Bryan, Beals and Auton each had two hits for Millikin. The Titans were limited to three hits by the Millikin pitching staff. Beals started the game on the mound and pitched four and one-third innings allowing one hit with six strikeouts. Tanner Colman (6-2) was the winning pitcher throwing three and two-thirds inning allowing two hits and two runs. Kyle Kane picked up his second save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
 
In Millikin's 7-6 win in game two, the Big Blue scored four runs in the third inning. Gabe Soria had an RBI single to start the scoring. Beals doubled home a run and Kane had a two-run single in the inning. 
 
The Titans put three on the board in the fourth with Jack Schneider doubling home a run. Kane doubled home two runs in the Millikin fifth to make it a 6-4 Big Blue lead. Beals scored on a passed ball in the seventh to give Millikin its important seventh run. Illinois Wesleyan rallied with two runs in the ninth, but fell one run short.
 
Soria and Kane each had three hits for Millikin with Kane driving home four. Bryan and Beals each had two hits.
 
Jared Mutter, Will Kafer and Schneider each had two hits for Illinois Wesleyan with Kafer driving home two runs.
