The Big Blue women's tennis team kicked off their 2021-22 season in the heat by winning the four-team Dorothy McClure Invitational Tournament, held at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex in Decatur, Ill. The hosts defeated the University of Dubuque in the first round 9-0 before sweeping Greenville University in the championship match.

The event is believed to be the oldest collegiate tennis tournament for women dating back to 1917. McClure was a physical education professor at Millikin.
Millikin jumped out to a hot start with a sweep in doubles. In the first match of the day to finish, Paige Willer and Emily Markus paired up for an 8-0 victory over Lauren Colon and Jordyn Cory of the Spartans at No. 1. Destiny Galvan and Shelby Jones accounted for the second win of the day at No. 3 with an 8-0 defeat of Regina Kadima and Liliana Leguizamo. Rounding out doubles play was the partnership of Chloe Sabin and Nikol Obradovic with an 8-1 win against Alyssa Stevenson and Patient Jabbah.

In singles, Markus picked up her first career singles win against Colon 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Obradovic followed suit at No. 1 with 6-2, 6-0 set wins over Stevenson. Brianna Barconi matched up against Cory from the Spartans and picked up her first win of the season 6-0, 6-2. Taylor Milholland added a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Leguizamo at No. 6. Finishing out the sweep for the Big Blue was two newcomers, Willer at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Jabbah and Sabin at No. 5 with a pair of 6-0 wins against Kadima.

Greenville University defeated Cornell College to advance to the championship matchup against the Big Blue. MU started off strong in doubles play, starting with Willer and Markus picking up their second 8-0 win of the day against Mireia Birosta and Addison Brannon from the Panthers at No. 1. Galvan and Jones found a similar outcome with their second 8-0 win of the day against Stephanie Kamp and Sarah Brannon. In a closer match than the first round, Sabin and Obradovic completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory against Shaling Reynolds and Claudia Principal of Greenville at No. 2.

The Big Blue continued their dominance on their home courts in singles play. Cristina Borunda secured the first singles win at No. 6, defeating Emily Buratovich 6-0, 6-2. Markus locked in the win for Millikin with her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Addison Brannon. Obradovic's match finished next, taking the 6-3, 6-0 win over Birosta. Barconi picked up another decisive win, taking down Reynolds 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Sabin earned her second 6-0, 6-0 win of the day over Kamp. Willer closed out the sweep, taking the first set with a 6-2 victory, dropping the second set 3-6, and winning a 10-5 tiebreaker.
