Women's Tennis Completes First Day of Action at Transylvania Fall Invite

The Big Blue women's tennis team competed in the first day of the Transylvania Women's Fall Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday, September 4.

Millikin started off the day in singles play against Wooster, sweeping the matches. Nikol Obradovic picked up a win against Otilia Oita 6-3, 6-3. Emily Markus also picked up a win in the first round against Charitha Patlolla of Wooster 6-4, 7-6 (3). Paige Willer defeated Ishika Gupta 6-4, 6-1, and Chloe Sabin was victorious against Janaki Jagannathan 7-6 (3), 6-1. The final two singles wins were secured by Cristina Borunda against Abby Aitken 6-1, 6-1, and Taylor Milholland against Emma Saxton 6-0, 6-2. 

The Big Blue also matched up against Transylvania University in singles play. Obradovic was defeated in her second round of singles play on the day 6-7 (4), 4-6 against Porsche Robinson. Markus and Willer each tallied their second singles wins of the day, with Markus defeating Jessica Burton 6-2, 6-0 and Willer taking the win over Grace Gardner 6-2, 6-4. Borunda and Milholland also picked up their second singles wins with Borunda taking the win over Alyssa Igyarto 7-5, 7-6 (3) and Milholland defeating Christina Duvall 6-2, 6-2. Shelby Jones also earned a win against Shania Jones of the Pioneers with twin 6-1 set victories. Galvan was defeated in her second match of the day, losing to Katherine Taylor 2-6, 2-6.

In the only doubles matches of the day for Millikin, they matched up against Asbury University. They swept doubles play. Markus and Willer teamed up for a victory over Alexandra Lerma and Isabella Gutierrez 8-2. Sabin and Obradovic defeated Luciana Iriarte and Allie Sutton 8-1. Jones and Galvan accounted for the final win with their defeat of Kourtney Kawata and Mary-Grayce Narron 8-0. 

Millikin women's tennis will compete in day two of the tournament on Sunday, September 5.
