#14 Millikin Women's Volleyball Felled by Pointers

The #14 Big Blue women's volleyball team finished out the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Pointers Invitational II playing against the host Pointers on Saturday, September 25. UWSP received votes in the latest AVCA poll.

Millikin was swept by the Pointers in three sets (18-25, 22-25, 21-25). Tori Stuart was once again the kills leader for MU with 12. Lauren Brummel and Jessi Kreder each added eight, and Kreder led Millikin in blocks with four. Freshman Sophia Gibbs tallied the lone service ace for the Big Blue along with two total blocks. Reece Brown was the assists leader with 32, and Kailee Itzenhuiser notched 11 digs for Millikin.

The Big Blue hung with the Pointers in the first set until late. UWSP used three straight kills from Ashley Kopp to pull ahead 16-18. A kill off the hand of Stuart brought MU within one at 18-19, but Stevens Point ran off six straight points with Grace Michalske behind the service line.

The second set saw the Big Blue use a late game rally to keep the score tight despite falling down four early in the set. Back-to-back kills from Kreder brought the Big Blue within three at 20-23. The Pointers scored on a kill from Reis Derousseau marked game point for UWSP. A kill from Kreder and attack error by the Pointers stalled the finish, but the Big Blue dropped set two 22-25.

In the final set, Millikin once again used a late game rally to come within three after the Pointers reached 24 and match point. Kills from Stuart and Kreder kept Millikin alive, but Stevens Point finished out the 21-25 set with a kill by Sophia Lee.

Stuart was named to the Pointers Invitational II All-Tournament Team.

The Millikin women's volleyball team jumps back into CCIW play during homecoming weekend when they match up against Illinois Wesleyan on Friday, October 1.
