Three Women's Tennis Players Compete at ITA Regional Championships

Three Big Blue women's tennis players traveled to Kalamazoo, Mich. for the three day ITA Regional Championships hosted by Kalamazoo College. Millikin participated in the Central Region tournament, one of nine Regional Championships. Nikol Obradovic and Emily Markus each participated in the singles competitions, and Markus teamed up with Paige Willer for doubles play. 

On the singles side, Markus won her first match against Katherine Taylor of Transylvania 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. She advanced to a matchup against Sydney Cianciola for her second match of day one. Markus was defeated 2-6, 6-3, 7-10. 

Obradovic's first matchup saw her defeated by Divya Sharma of Wash U. Obradovic found success in the consolation bracket, first defeating Mireia Birosta of Greenville 5-7, 7-5, 10-8. She then faced Caroline Lopez of Denison and pulled off a comeback win after dropping the first set 0-6, to take the final two sets 7-5, 10-8. 

She met a familiar face in the next round against Hannah Hougland from North Central, who she defeated 6-0, 6-3. Obradovic was defeated on Sunday by Anna Winslow from Kenyon in the C-Semifinals 0-6, 1-6. Winslow was defeated in the C-Final in the next round. 

On the doubles side, Markus and Willer took the victory in their first matchup against Ellen Gardner/Sophia DiBiase 8-5. In their second matchup, they were bested by Ellie Cole/Ashley Spirrison of Trine 6-8. 

The Big Blue will jump back into conference against Elmhurst on Friday, October 1 as part of Homecoming weekend at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
