Men's Swimming Morgan Vogels

Swimming Opens Season with Wins over North Central and Illinois College

The Big Blue men's and women's swim teams opened their 2022-23 season from the Decatur Family YMCA on Saturday, October 22. In combined scores, the Big Blue defetaed North Central 299-54 and Illinois College 245-146. The men were victorious by a 149-27 margin over the Cardinals, and 134-53 over the Blue Boys. On the women's side, the Big Blue defeated North Central 150-27 and Illinois College 111-93. 

Millikin started with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with the team of Emma Cox, Kendall Rossignol, Amanda Fathman, and Erin Powell taking a time of 2:04.45. On the men's side, the team of Dawsen Loafman, Aaron Amaya, Jack Hughes, and Jason Burrow placed first in the 200 yard medley in a time of 1:48.93. 

In the women's 1000 yard freestyle, Rossignol took first in a time of 12:21.46. Shay Buchanan placed second in a time of 12:27.98. On th men's side, Justin Maniago placed first in his time of 11:49.79, with Mark Miller placing third in 12:26.69. 

In the women's 200 yard freestyle, Sarahi Villafana was second in a time of 2:11.53, and Cox placed fifth. In the men's race, Jack Hughes placed first in his time of 1:57.53, and Amaya placed second. 

Kaitlyn Mayer recorded the win in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 27.12, while Erin Powell placed third and Kally Saenz took fourth. Loafman tallied a win in the men's race with a time of 23.44, and KJ Hamlin and Lucas Ruda rounded out the top three. 

Aly Barnes placed first in the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:21.08. Msanaa Bosland was the second place finisher in the men's race with a time of 2:11.50. 

In the women's 100 yard butterfly, Fathman placed third. Hughes was the second place finisher in the men's race in 58.26.

In the women's 100 yard freestyle, Barnes notched her second win of the day with a time of 56.78. Ruda took first in the men's race with a time of 54.58, Miller placed third. 

Barnes added a third individual win in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.93. Cox took third, and Powell placed fourth. In the men's race, Loafman placed first in a time of 1:02.69. Hamlin and Maniago rounded out the top three. 

Villafana recorded an individual victory in the 500 yard freestyle wiht a time of 5:54.45, Buchanan placed second. On the men's side, Bosland was the first place finisher. Smiley placed third. 

In the women's 100 yard breaststroke, Rossignol was the top Big Blue finisher in a time of 1:17.95. Amaya placed first in the men's race in a time of 1:07.05. 

The women's relay team of Villafana, Fathman, Natallie Buchanan, and Mayer took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.06. On the men's side, Bosland, Ruda, Hamlin, and Maniago collaborated for a win in 1:35.76. The team of Smiley, Blake Wiebe, Burrow,and Miller placed second.
