Millikin Women’s Basketball Falls to Stevens Point

The Millikin women's basketball team lost to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 64-61 at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tipoff Classic in Whitewater, Wisconsin on November 11.
 
The Pointers led 21-20 at the end of the first quarter, but the Big Blue outscored them in the low scoring second quarter 11-7 to lead 31-28 at halftime. Wisconsin-Stevens Point controlled the third quarter out scoring Millikin 24-12 to hold a 52-43 advantage.
 
Millikin rallied in the fourth quarter outscoring the Pointers 18-12 but could never take the lead. The Big Blue pulled to within one point in the final quarter three times, but the Pointers held off Millikin each instance. Elyce Knudsen pulled Millikin to within one at 55-54 with 3:44 remaining. The Pointers went on a 7-0 run to go with 61-54 with 1:44 left to play. Millikin mounted one final comeback with Knudsen scoring seven straight points for the Big Blue to make it a 62-61 Stevens Point lead with 42 seconds remaining. The Pointers went 2-4 from the free throw line in the final seconds, but Millikin's game tying shot was off the mark as time expired.
 
Millikin shot 40.7 percent (24-59) from the field while going 6-16 (37.5) from three-point range. The Big Blue made all seven of its free throw attempts. Stevens Point shot 40 percent (24-60) from the field. The Pointers outrebounded Millikin 44-29.
 
Knudsen led the Big Blue with 22 points. Sophie Darden added 10 points and Chelsea McCullum and Sarah Isaf each scored nine points. Miranda Fox had a team high seven rebounds and five assists.
 
Jamie Pfeifer led the Pointers with 18 points followed by Alexa Thomson with 17.
 
Wisconsin-Stevens Point improves to 2-0 while Millikin goes to 1-1. The Big Blue play the defending national runner ups Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday.
