Women’s Basketball Falls at #4 Whitewater

The Millikin women's basketball team lost at fourth ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater 79-69 on November 12 in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
 
The Big Blue started well against the defending national runner ups. A basket by Miranda Fox gave Millikin an 11-1 lead with 6:35 left in the first quarter. The Warhawks then rallied going on a 13-2 run and Kacie Carollo's three-pointer gave Whitewater a 14-13 advantage with 2:25 remaining in the quarter. The game was tied 21-21 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Wisconsin-Whitewater took control of the game in the second quarter building a 46-34 lead at halftime. The Big Blue battled through foul trouble and an injury to Miranda Fox during the period. Fox would not return for the second half. Millikin kept the game close with each team scoring 20 points in the third quarter and the Big Blue outscoring the Warhawks 15-13 in the fourth quarter, but Millikin could not cut into the lead.
 
Millikin shot 44 percent (26-59) from the field and went 5-11 (45.5 percent) from three-point range. Wisconsin-Whitewater had 46 percent from the field (29-63) and made 9-19 (47 percent) from three-point range. The Warhawks won the rebounding battle 40-30.
 
The game featured a pair of All-Americans with Elyce Knudsen leading the Big Blue with 25 points and seven rounds. The Warhawks' All-American Ashley Gundahl scored 25 points and had six rebounds.
 
Sarah Isaf had nine points for Millikin and Sarah Ness and Emily White each added seven.
 
Carollo finished with 19 points for Whitewater.
 
Millikin falls to 1-2 while the Warhawks improve to 2-0. The Big Blue are back in action on Monday, November 14 in its home opener at 7 p.m. against Illinois College.
