Big Blue Men Fall in Conference Battle

The Millikin men's basketball team lost to North Park University 64-62 to open play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin on November 30 at the Griswold Center in Decatur.
 
Millikin jumped out to a 21-11 advantage halfway through the first half. North Park battled back and lead 28-26 at halftime. The Vikings had an 11 point advantage with 15:12 remaining in the game, but the Big Blue battled back in a game that had six lead changes and four ties.
Millikin had trouble with the North Park pressing defense committing 23 turnovers including 17 in the first half. The Big Blue shot 43 percent (23-53) from the field and made 5-13 (38.5 percent) from beyond the arc. North Park shot 34 percent (21-62) from the field and 5-17 (29 percent) from three point range. The Vikings made only 17-35 (49 percent) from the free throw line allowing Millikin to make its second half comeback.
 
Noah Livingston's jump in the lane tied the game at 54-54 with 6:13 left to play. After North Park went 1-2 from the line, Cole Laurence scored to give Millikin a 56-55 advantage. Livingston converted a steal by Landon Hullinger to give the Big Blue a 58-55 lead with 4:38 to play. Jalen Boyd pulled the Vikings to within one with a basket and then hit a three-point to put North Park back in the lead 60-58 with 3:36 in the game. JT Welch's layup pulled Millikin to 63-62 with 33 seconds to go, but the Big Blue missed its final opportunity to tie the game or take the lead in the final seconds.
 
Welch led Millikin with 14 points followed by Hullinger with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Livingston finished with 10 points.
 
Millikin is now 5-2, 0-1 while North Park improves to 5-1, 1-0. The Big Blue travel to Augustana College on Saturday, December 3.
