Big Blue Men’s Basketball Comeback Falls Short

The Millikin men's late game comeback fell just short losing to Carthage College 70-67 on December 10 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Millikin opened the game with a 10-5 run, but Carthage battled back and took the lead at 14-12 with 13:38 remaining in the first half. The Firebirds would lead the rest of the half and would go into the locker room at halftime up 37-29. Carthage would push the lead to 13 points with 14:50 left in the game and lead 63-52 with 6:44 remaining in the game. The Big Blue would then go on a 13-3 run to pull within one at 66-65 on a fast break basket by Chase Travis with 2:43 to play. Antuan Nesibtt answered for Carthage to make it 68-65 with 2:13 left in the game. Cole Laurence's rebound and basket made it 68-67 Firebirds with 1:13 remaining. Colton Sigel hit two free throws to seal the victory for Carthage. Millikin missed two game tying shot attempts in the final 10 seconds of the game.
 
Millikin shot 24-54 (44 percent) from the field and made 8-22 from three-point range. Carthage made 26-60 (43 percent) and converted on 7-21 from beyond the arc. Carthage on the rebounding battle 34-32.
 
Millikin was led by Demarcus Bond with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists. Travis came off the Millikin bench to score 11 points and grab five rebounds. Laurence had seven points and seven rebounds.
 
Fillip Bulatovic led Carthage with a double double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
