Millikin Women’s Basketball Wins Fourth Straight

The Millikin women's basketball team won its fourth straight game 56-41 on December 10 at the Griswold Center.
 
The game featured the official dedication of Lori Kerans Court. Kerans, who coached the Big Blue for 32 seasons from 1996-2018, is Millikin's all-time winningest women's basketball coach with over 500 career wins, 11 CCIW titles and one NCAA Division III National Championship.
 
Current Head Coach Olivia Lett the Big Blue to its third win in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The Big Blue are now 7-3 on the season and 3-0 in the CCIW. Carthage falls to 3-5, 1-1).
 
Millikin opened the game with an 8-2 run and would never trail in the contest. Millikin lead 19-10 at the end of the first quarter and 34-17 at halftime. The Big Blue would have its largest lead of the game of 20 points with 38 seconds left to play in the third quarter and the Big Blue lead 48-28 at the end of the period.
 
Millikin shot 38 percent (24-63) from the field and struggled from three-point range going 1-18. Millikin forced Carthage into 25 turnovers returning in more offensive opportunities for the Big Blue. Carthage shot 30 percent from the field (15-50) while making 4-24 from three-point range. The Firebirds had a slight rebounding advantage 37-35.
 
Elyce Knudsen led Millikin with 20 points followed by Sophie Darden with 14 points and five rebounds. Abby Ratsch had a team high eight rebounds and nine points.
 
Lauren Knight led Carthage with 12 points followed by Marianna Morrissey with 10.
