Men's Tennis Felled by Washington College in Final Hilton Head Matchup

The Millikin men's tennis team concluded their tenure at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head Island, SC on Friday, March 18 with a matchup against Washington College (MD). The Big Blue were defeated by WC by a 2-7 margin. 

Washington College started off strong in doubles play by sweeping the Big Blue. In the first match to finish, Theodor Wolf and Cole Phillips were defeated 2-8 at No. 1 by Karl Hoegstedt and Andrew Smith. The second match to finish saw Clayton Maack and Holden Owens fall to Koby Bonta and Landon Strober at No. 2, 4-8. The final doubles match concluded with Ryohei Kawai and Christian Gruyon picking up a win against Cory Erickson and James Broach at No. 3 by a score of 2-8. 

On the singles side, Owens was defeated by Burns in twin 0-6 sets at No. 3. Clayton Maack was the first victor for the Big Blue, defeating Kawai at No. 1 with 6-4, 6-3 set wins. Wolf fell at No. 2 to Bonta in twin 4-6 sets. Phillips tallied another Big Blue win at No. 4 with 6-2, 6-3 set scores to defeat Gruyon. In the two final matches to finish, Erickson was defeated by Ravichandran 1-6, 2-6 at No. 5 and Naylor was defeated by Ludwigstorff 3-6, 1-6 at No. 6. 

With the Big Blue's afternoon matchup slated against Western New England University canceled,
Millikin will hit the courts again on Sunday, March 27 in Decatur, Ill. against Illinois College.
