Big Blue Men's Tennis Defeated by Greenville

The Big Blue men's tennis team took on the Panthers of Greenville University on Saturday, March 26. Due to a wind advisory, the match was held indoors at the Decatur Athletic Club in Decatur, Ill. 

In doubles play, Millikin started out with a victory at No. 2 when Clayton Maack and Holden Owens defeated Clark Kent and Luke Motsinger 8-1. The Panthers rallied to pick up a win at No. 3 with Austin Burkhart and Thibaut Tignee victorious over Cory Erickson and James Broach by a 3-8 margin. The Big Blue fell behind 1-2 heading into singles play as Theodor Wolf and Cole Phillips fell 4-8 at No. 1 singles to Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez. 

On the singles side, Phillips was the victor at No. 4, defeating Motsinger 6-1, 6-3 to even the score at two apiece. Wolf earned a win at No. 2 over Rodriguez with set scores of 6-2, 6-1. Owens picked up the third Big Blue singles victory at No. 3, defeating Kent 6-4, 6-3. Greenville's Sanchez posted the win at No. 1 singles against Maack, 3-6, 6-2, 5-7. At No. 6, Broach fell to Tignee, taking set one in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4), then falling 1-6, 4-6 in the second and third sets. In the final match to finish, Erickson was defeated by Burkhart after taking set one 7-6 (7-3), then falling 3-6, 5-7. 

Greenville won the match by a 4-5 margin. Big Blue men's tennis will jump into conference play when they match up against their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opponent when they meet North Central College at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex on Friday, April 1.
