Softball Sweeps Elmhurst, Lanie Chizmark Delivers Walk-off Pinch Hit Homerun in Game Two

The Big Blue softball team traveled to Elmhurst, Ill. on Sunday, April 10 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin doubleheader against the Bluejays of Elmhurst University. Millikin swept the Bluejays, with the game two victory coming in walkoff fashion when freshman Lanie Chizmark delivered a pinch hit two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh to give MU a 5-4 win.

In game one, Millikin got on the board early in the first inning with a first-and-third situation, capitalizing on a double steal as Kendallyn Davison crossed the plate. Emma Lewandowski later scored on a Grace Biondo double to center. The Big Blue tacked on a third when Cassie Reed sent an RBI groundout to late Biondo.

In the second inning, Rylee Blake crossed the plate after a Bluejay error on a ball put into play by Davison. Davison scored for the second time on the day on a double steal, then the third run of the inning was scored after a Tennison single to right plated Biondo.

Elmhurst tallied two runs in the bottom of the second to cut the Millikin lead to 6-2, then another in the fourth.

In the fifth, Millikin's Skundberg sent a double to right center to plate Reed and pinch runner Sarah Lahner. Davison later scored on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Lewandowski to tally the final Millikin run. The Big Blue took game one 9-3.

Aly Armstrong took the victory in game one, pitching four innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. Charly Warlow picked up her second save of the season in three innings of work.

Game two saw Millikin as the home team on the scoreboard, but the Big Blue still struck first. With the bases loaded, Davison sent a double to center to clear the bases and give MU a 3-0 advantage. Elmhurst rallied in the fifth, scoring two runs, then took the lead in the sixth after a fielder's choice allowed the fourth run to score.

Down 3-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Chizmark entered the game for a pinch hit at bat and delievered a walkoff two-run homerun to plate Davison and give Millikin the sweep with the 5-4 win.

With the sweep, Millikin softball moves to 22-4 overall this season, with a 4-2 CCIW record. The Big Blue will continue conference play on Saturday, April 16 for a doubleheader at the Workman Family Softball Field against North Park University.
