Big Blue Softball Sweeps North Park with Twin 12-0 Victories

The Big Blue softball team matched up with the Vikings of North Park University on Saturday, April 16 at the Workman Family Softball Field. Millikin finished the day with twin 12-0 victories.

In game one, Camryn Skundberg accounted for the first RBI, doubling to right field to plate pinch runner Sarah Lahner in the bottom of the second. Kendallyn Davison tacked on another with an RBI single through the right side, scoring Skundberg. Lanie Chizmark was the next in the RBI column with a triple to right center that scored two. Leah Foreman later plated Chizmark with a sacrifice fly to center, giving Millikin a 5-0 lead.

In the third, Skundberg singled to plate Kaylee Goluch, then Rylee Blake delivered an RBI single. Davison roped a ground-rule double over the left center fence to score two, then she later crossed the plate on a sacrfice fly off the bat of Chizmark to put up the second five-run inning in a row for the Big Blue.

Skundberg put up the final two runs on the board with a two-run homerun to left center field and give Millikin a 12-0 lead. Skundberg led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3, and Blake went 2-for-2.

Aly Armstrong picked up the win in the circle, pitching three innings and allowing no hits while striking out three. Bailey Coffman provided two innings in relief, striking out three.

Game two saw a similar fate. As the visitors on the scoreboard, Lex Tennison laid down a squeeze bunt to score Grace Biondo in the top of the second inning. Cassie Reed sent a single to right center to score Tennison, then a sacrfice fly off the bat of Davison plated Lahner in place of Reed to put MU up by a 3-0 margin. Blake and Skundberg later scored when Foreman reached on a Viking error. Chizmark stole home to put Millikin up 6-0, then a Biondo triple down the right field line scored pinch runner Emma Spurgetis for a seven-run inning.

In the third, Davison singled to left field to score Blake and Goluch and give Millikin a 9-0 lead.

Rounding out the scoring for the Big Blue, Davison's triple to right field scored Blake and Anna Enlow, then a groundout off the bat of Emma Lewandowski notched the final run in the second 12-0 win of the day.

Addison Sargent earned the win with three innings of work, striking out five and allowing one hit. Charly Warlow and Kelsey Bruno each provided an inning of relief.

Millikin improves to 24-4 with the sweep, 6-2 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play. The Big Blue will travel to Bloomington, Ill. on Wednesday, April 20 for a CCIW doubleheader against the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University.
