#22 Big Blue Softball Downs Carroll in Key CCIW Twin Bill Sweep

The #22 Big Blue softball team took the field at the Workman Family Softball Field on a windy Saturday, April 23 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin twin bill against the Pioneers of Carroll University. Millikin picked up the crucial CCIW sweep with two six-inning wins, taking game one 8-0 and game two 9-0.

Held scoreless through the first three innings in game one, Lex Tennison sent a triple to deep right center to score two in the bottom of the fourth, then a Gretchen Gould single to left center plated Tennison to give MU a 3-0 advantage. The Big Blue tacked on two more with RBI groundouts off the bats of Camryn Skundberg and Rylee Blake

In the fifth, Leah Foreman tallied an RBI on a groundout to score Lanie Chizmark. The final two Millikin runs were a credit to Chizmark's single to center, scoring Blake and Skundberg to end the game in the sixth inning with the 8-0 victory.

Aly Armstrong picked up the game one victory, giving up just two hits and one walk through six innings of work and striking out eight. Armstrong improved to 12-3 this season with the win.

In game two, as the visitors on the scoreboard the Big Blue found themselves in the scoring column early. After Kendallyn Davison reached base, Foreman delivered a sacrifice fly to center to score the first run. In the third, Foreman was credited with another RBI after laying down a squeeze bunt to score Blake and give MU a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Davison sent a homerun to deep left center with the bases loaded to tally four RBI and put Millikin up 6-0. The final three Millikin runs were scored in the sixth, first on an RBI single up the middle off the bat of Chizmark then a Foreman single to right that scored Blake and Chizmark.

Addison Sargent was the winning pitcher in game two to improve to 11-1 in the 2022 season. Sargent struck out four through five innings of work. Charly Warlow provided an inning of relief, striking out two.

With the sweep, the Big Blue return to the top of the CCIW standings and improve to 26-4 overall, 8-2 in CCIW play. Millikin will travel to Bloomington, Ill. on Tuesday, April 26 for a conference doubleheader against the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University.
