Millikin Baseball Sweeps Titans

The Millikin baseball team swept a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader from Illinois Wesleyan University on April 23 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur.  Millikin's 7-2 victory in game one and 10-4 triumph in game two gave the Big Blue six straight wins including five in-a-row in conference action.
 
In game one, Millikin scored three runs in the bottom of the first. After Illinois Wesleyan scored two in the top of the fourth, the Big Blue posted three more runs in the bottom of the inning. Millikin added an insurance run in the eighth.  The Titans out hit Millikin 11 to nine, but Millikin took advantage of two Illinois Wesleyan errors.
 
Tanner Coleman had two hits and two RBI for Millikin. Tyler Gade added two hits. Garrett Fritz had two RBI with a double in the fourth inning.
Caleb Buehrle improved to 7-3 on the season pitching eight innings scattering 10 hits and allowing two earned runs while striking out eight.
 
Evan Ranneklev had three hits to lead the Titans attack. Jared Mutter and Ethan Burgh each had two hits and one RBI.
 
Each team scored three runs in the first inning of game two. Millikin again took advantage of Titans miscues leading to a run in the first and a go-ahead run in the fourth. Illinois Wesleyan tied the game in the top of the fourth at 4-4. Gade answered for Millikin in the bottom of the inning with a two-run single to make it 6-4 Big Blue. Millikin scored two more runs in the sixth and two in the eighth.
 
Fritz and Keagan Brady each had three hits in the game for Millikin. Gade and Kyle Gibson each had two hits with Gade collecting three RBI.
Max Simpson was the winning pitcher in relief. After pitching a scoreless ninth inning in game one, Aaron Agee earned the save in game two one and one-third hitless innings.
 
Cole Greer had three hits for Illinois Wesleyan. Renneklev and Louis Perona had two hits each.
 
Millikin improves to 21-12, 7-6 while Illinois Wesleyan falls to 15-14, 6-6.
