Big Blue Baseball Falls in Extra Innings

The Millikin baseball team lost to Augustana College 7-4 in 11 innings in the second round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament on May 12 at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
 
The Big Blue jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the second inning. Frank Bryan opened the inning with a single. Tommy Shaw singled sending Bryan to third base. With two outs in the inning, Millikin scored twice after a Vikings' error extended the inning. Tyler Gade singled home the Big Blue's third run of the inning.
 
Augustana took advantage of two Millikin errors and control issues from pitcher Caleb Buehrle to make it a 3-2 game in the third. The Vikings tied the game in the top of the fourth on back-to-back doubles from Cole Green and Kyle Wise. Augustana went ahead 4-3 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Jacob Pauwels.
 
Millikin used its fundamental style of action to tie the game in the eighth.
Bryan singled to open the inning and was sacrificed to second by Shaw. With Bryan running on the pitch, Kelby Golladay singled to shortstop and Bryan scored on a throwing error on the play.
 
Augustana scored three runs in the top of the 11th to pull out the victory.
Zachary Vrbanic had an RBI single, and Jacob Barker had a run scoring double in the inning. Vrbanic had three hits to lead the Vikings' attack.
 
Gade had four hits for the Big Blue with Bryan collecting three. Gibson and Shaw each had two hits.
 
Millikin faces the number on seed North Central on May 13 at 12 p.m. in Naperville in an elimination game. After losing to North Park in the first game of the tournament, North Central rallied to knock off Carroll University 10-0 on Thursday.
