Big Blue Men Edge Augustana

The Millikin men's basketball defeated Augustana College 79-73 on January 21 at the Griswold Center.
 
The game had eight lead changes and four ties with Augustana holding a 33-31 advantage at halftime. The Viking's had a 10 point lead in the first half. Millikin took the lead in the second half and had a 13 point lead at 65-52 midway through the half. 
 
Two straight three-pointers by freshman Nate Straughter helped Millikin take the lead for good at 50-48 with 13:16 remaining in the game. After a Jaden McClain layup, Straughter would connect on another three-pointer to make it a 55-50 lead. After the Big Blue lead grew to 13, the Vikings clawed its way back and pulled to within one at 73-72 on a basket by Tyler Knuth with 2:17 left to play. JT Welch would answer for Millikin to push the lead back to 75-72, which allowed Millikin to hold on for the win.
 
Straughter making his first career start and ended the game as Millikin top scorer with a career high 19 points. Straughter was 6-8 from three-point range in the game. Welch had 17 points for Millikin followed by Noah Livingston with 10. Drake Stevenson added nine points.
 
Knuth led the Vikings with 22 points followed by Matt Hawkins with 15.
 
Millikin shot 54.5 (30-55) from the field and converted on 11-23 (48 percent) from three-point range. The Vikings made 29-53 (55 percent) from the field making 6-18 from three-point range.
 
Millikin improves to 9-9, 2-7 while the Vikings fall to 5-13, 3-6.
