Men's Soccer Falls in Goalfest at Carthage

The Millikin men's soccer team traveled to Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, October 21 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin matchup with Carthage College. The game saw 14 total goals, and the Big Blue fell in the 5-9 goalfest. 

Carthage was on the board first, scoring in the 13th minute on a Micky Reilly goal, then Reilly found the back of the net in the 18th minute.Trevor Molitor scored Carthage's third goal in the 19th minute. Alvin Brämhagen chipped away at the Firebird lead with a goal in the 20th minute, but Carthage added two more goals before the end of the first half from Collin Moran and Luis Garduno. Millikin added a second goal from Nacho Diaz, assisted by Hunter Zenger just before the halftime buzzer.

In the second half, the Big Blue got in the scoring column three times to tie the contest. First it was Johannes Smaaberg assisted by Brämhagen, then Diaz's second on a penalty kick. Diaz completed his hat trick minutes later in the 65th minute on a goal assisted by Brämhagen. 

But, Reilly matched it with a hat trick of his own, scoring a third in the 66th minute to regain the Firebird lead. Carthage tacked on three more with goals by Joe Balas, Aidan Crowder, and Christian Hinestrosa. 

The Firebirds outshot the Big Blue 11-29. Nine of the Big Blue's 11 shots were on goal. 

Millikin will match up against Wheaton College on Wednesday, October 25 for their final CCIW match of the 2023 season.
