Football Falls at Augustana

The Millikin football team lost at Augustana College 42-3 on October 7 in Rock Island, Illinois.
 
The Millikin offense put together a solid drive on its first possession. The drive was highlighted by a 39-yard pass from Aiden Lombardo to Ezra Burtis and a 26-yard pass from Lombardo to Chord Miller to the Augustana eight yard line. The Big Blue offense stall and had to settle for a 31-yard field goal from David Ramirez to make it 3-0 Big Blue.
 
The Millikin defense played well in the first quarter was well keeping the Vikings off the board making it a 3-0 game at the end of the quarter.
 
Augustana got its offense rolling in the second quarter and took a 7-3 with 5:09 left in the half on a one-yard run by Tyler Rivelli. Millikin turned the ball over on the first play of its next drive and the Vikings converted a six-play 70-yard drive to make it 14-3 on a 15-yard pass from Cole Bhardwaj to Breyden Smith.
 
On its next possession, the Big Blue had three straight incomplete passes resulting in a punt. The Vikings Bobby Inserra had a 48-yard punt return to the Millikin 12 yard line. Bhardwaj then connected with Inserra on a 12-yard pass play. The extra point make it 21-3 Vikings with 1:29 left in the first half.
 
Augustana scored three rushing touchdowns in the second half while shutting down the Millikin offense.
 
The Vikings had 418 yards of total offense including 276 rushing yards. Millikin had 242 yards of offense with 184 yards coming through the air.
 
Lombardo was 11-29-3 passing for 184 yards. Burtis and Don Starling led the Millikin receivers with three catches each for 64 yards. Miller had three catches for 54 yards.
 
Rivelli led the Vikings offense with 109 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Bhardwaj was 13-19 for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Mike DiGiola had two rushing touchdowns for Augustana.
James Paradee and Collin Hancock had 10 tackles each to lead the Millikin defense.
 
Millikin falls to 0-5, 0-4. The Big Blue face an uphill battle next Saturday hosting #1 North Central College at 1 p.m. Augustana goes to 4-1, 3-1.
