Millikin Women’s Basketball Wins Road Battle

The #15 ranked Millikin women's basketball team won a tight road battle 73-68 at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on November 21 in Platteville, Wis. The Big Blue improve to 5-0 while the Pioneers fall to 3-2.
 
Millikin had a poor start to the game and trailed 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Big Blue got things going late in the second quarter. Trailing 30-21 with 3:37 left in the half, Millikin went on a 12-0 run to take a 33-30 lead at halftime.
 
Millikin pulled out to a five point advantage early in the third quarter, but Platteville regroup and outscored Millikin 19-14 in the period to take a 49-47 lead heading to the fourth quarter. The final quarter was a battle with Platteville pulling out to a four point advantage. Millikin fought back and regained the 64-63 on a pair of free throws from Elyce Knudsen. After a Pioneers turnover, Bailey Coffman hit a three-pointer to make it a 67-63 Big Blue advantage with 2:51 to play. Platteville pulled to within one at 69-68 with 1:01 remaining. Rachel Holthaus and Coffman would each hit two free throws in the final 25 seconds to secure the Millikin win.
 
Millikin shot 45 percent (28-62) from the field including going 7-11 in the fourth quarter. Millikin made 5-11 (45.5 percent) from three-point range and went 12-13 from the free throw line. Millikin won the rebounding battle 41-26.
 
Wisconsin-Platteville shot 47 percent (27-58) from the field. The Pioneers made 7-19 (37 percent) from three-point range but made 5-12 in the second half.
 
Knudsen led the way for Millikin with 23 points. Coffman had a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sophie Darden added 13 points and five rebounds. Emily Brenneisen had seven points and four rebounds.
 
Brynlee Nelson led Platteville with 16 points followed by Sarah Mueller with 11 and Barb Kling with 10.
