Big Blue Baseball Splits Doubleheader

The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader at #24 East Texas Baptist University on February 11 in Marshall, Texas. The Tigers won game one 5-4, but the Big Blue rallied to take game two 3-2.
 
Millikin rallied late to win game two. The Big Blue trailed 2-0 after six innings. Tommy Shaw had an RBI single in the seventh to cut the advantage to 2-1. The Big Blue took the lead with two runs in the eighth.
Freshman Sam Bushur led off the inning with a triple. Hunter Smith followed with a double to tie the game at 2-2. After an infield single by Tyler Gade moved Smith to third, Liam McGill drove in the game winner with a sacrifice fly. Gade had two hits in the game for the Big Blue.
 
Three Millikin pitchers held East Texas Baptist to just five hits. Starter Drew Detmers pitched four and one-third innings allowing four hits and two earned runs. Sophomore Max Simpson was the winning pitcher in relief throwing two and two-thirds hitless innings recording three strikeouts. Senior Aaron Agee earned the save throwing the final two innings allowing only one hit while striking out two.
 
Jacob Evangelista led the Tigers with two runs batted in.
 
In game one, each teams scored singles runs in the first inning. Kyle Gibson doubled home a run for Millikin and Brett Wagner tied the game with a home run.
 
Millikin went up 2-1 in the third on a run scoring single from Shaw. The Tigers again used the long ball to tie the game in the fifth with Jake Miller hitting a solo shot.
 
Carson Wilson drove in two runs with a single in the fifth to make it a 4-2 Tigers lead Ben Lea homered in the sixth to make it 5-2.
 
Millikin made it close with two runs in the seventh with Andy Neibrugge driving in one with a double and Kelby Golladay driving in one with a ground out.
 
Shaw went 3-4 for Millikin with Gade collecting three hits.
