Millikin Baseball Wins Fourth Straight

The Big Blue baseball team finished their weekend in Conway, Arkansas a perfect 3-0, after defeating Hendrix College by a score of 10-2 on February 19.

The Warriors got on the board first, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Millikin's Sean Shook tied the game up in the second inning with an RBI double that scored Ryan Janssen and Tommy Shaw. After holding Hendrix scoreless in the bottom half of the frame, the Big Blue bats again got to work. Tyler Gade led the inning off with a single up the middle, then was bunted to second by Liam McGill. DH Kyle Gibson would single Gade home to give Millikin a 3-2 lead. Back-to-back hard-hit balls down the third base line from Shaw and Andy Niebrugge scored Gibson, bringing the lead to 4-2. A bases loaded single from freshman Sam Bushur would score Janssen and Niebrugge to cap off a 4-run Millikin third inning. Millikin would tack on two more runs in the fourth inning on singles from Shaw and Niebrugge, followed by another two runs in the fifth inning that scored on a single from McGill and a throwing error from Hendrix catcher Rail Gilliam.

Millikin pitching worked out of several jams to shut out the Warriors in the final eight frames. Matt Wilson battled to give Millikin four innings. Landon Johnson and Jacob Bailey gave the Big Blue four shutout innings from the bullpen. Christian Badorek and Drew Sutton combined to finish the game in the ninth inning.

Gibson, Shaw, Niebrugge, and Shook each had multi-hit days for the Big Blue, and each of the Millikin starters reached base at least one time.
Millikin stole seven bases in the game, including three from McGill.

"I think that we stayed aggressive the whole game and kept our foot on the gas. We got ahead and stayed ahead. We played our game," said McGill.

Millikin will be back in action for their home opener this coming Saturday, Feb. 25, when they host Benedictine University.
