Big Blue Men’s Basketball Edged by Thunder

The Millikin men's basketball team lost at #8 Wheaton College 84-73 on February 4 at the King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois.
 
Millikin was looking to take down the top team in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) on the road for the second straight game after the Big Blue upset the co-leader North Park University in Chicago on Wednesday.
 
The Big Blue's upset bid looked good for the first half. Millikin lead 32-25 at halftime after shooting 50 percent (15-30) from the field in the first half while holding the Thunder to 31 percent (8-26).  Wheaton took advantage of its quickness to outscore Millikin 59-41 in the second half with the Thunder shooting 60 percent (15-25) from the field while Millikin made only 41 percent (16-39). Wheaton had a major advantage in the game from the free throw going 30-42 from the free throw line while Millikin was 8-12. Millikin was whistled for 28 fouls in the game.
 
Millikin had four players score in double figures lead by JT Welch with 15 followed by Noah Livingston with 13 and Nate Straughter with 12. Demarcus Bond added 11 points and a team high nine rebounds along with three assists.
 
Tyson Cruickshank led Wheaton with 19 points and nine rebounds. TJ Askew had 17 points followed by Eli Considine with 16.
 
The game featured eight lead changes and six ties with Millikin leading for over 21 minutes of the game.
 
Millikin falls to 11-11, 4-9 while Wheaton improves to 19-3, 11-2. The Big Blue play its final home game of the season on Wednesday, February 8 hosting Illinois Wesleyan.
