Softball Falls to Transylvania, to #7 Virginia Wesleyan on Second Day of Cross Bay Bash

The Big Blue softball team took to field in Virginia Beach, Va. for the second day of the Cross Bay Bash with matchups against Transylvania and #7 Virginia Wesleyan.

In game one, Millikin fell in a 6-8 contest. Starting off the game with a homerun off the bat of Lanie Chizmark in the top of the first, but the Pioneers had an answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning. In the fourth, a Zoie Bowman single to right plated Kelsey Tinder, then a Chizmark triple to center scored Bowman and Kaylee Goluch. The Big Blue tied the game in the fifth on an Anna Enlow sacrifice fly to left field to score Aundrea Jenkins, then would take a 6-5 lead when Bowman scored on an error by the Transylvania catcher. The Pioneers once again had an answer, starting with a two-run homerun, then a triple to plate three runs and defeat the Big Blue.

Bowman went 2-for-3 in the game, and both Chizmark and Kendallyn Davison went 2-for-4 at the plate. On the mound, Addison Sargent pitched 2 innings, and Charly Warlow offered four innings of relief.

Against Virginia Wesleyan, Leah Foreman delivered the first RBI of the game with a double to right field to score Davison. Millikin held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth when the Marlins plated three. The Big Blue answered with a Tinder single to center that scored Jada Wilson, then a Goluch triple to right field scored both Katie Detamore and Morgan Boward to give Millikin a 4-3 advantage heading into the seventh. Virginia Wesleyan won in walkoff fashion, downing the Big Blue 4-5 after a Big Blue error allowed two runs to cross the plate.

Millikin falls to 4-4 after a weekend of tough competition. Millikin will be back in action on Sunday, March 19 when they travel to their annual spring break trip, starting with games against Buffalo State and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
