Armstrong Sets New Millikin Record as Softball Splits on Day One of Spring Break

The Big Blue softball team took the field at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Fla. on Sunday, March 19 for their first two matchups of The Spring Games. In the first game of the morning against Buffalo State, Aly Armstrong set a new Millikin record for strikeouts in a game with 16.

Millikin defeated the Bengals 6-1, getting in the scoring column in the first inning when an RBI double off the bat of Leah Foreman plated Rylee Blake. Maddy Regan was responsible for the next two runs on the board, scoring Foreman and Blake with an RBI single up the middle in the third. In the fourth, the Big Blue tacked on two more on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of blake that scored Lex Tennison, and a Lanie Chizmark single through the right side to allow Kaylee Goluch to score. Buffalo State added a run of their own in the sixth, but Millikin matched it with another Chizmark single through the left side that plated Jada Wilson.

With the 6-1 victory, Armstrong picked up her third in the circle this season. Kelsey Bruno added an inning of relief, striking out two.

In game two, Millikin fell to the Titans of UW-Oshkosh in a 1-6 contest. Blake went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Regan was 2-for-3 at the dish to lead MU offensively.

Big Blue softball will be back in action on Monday, March 20 for matchups against The College of Wooster and UW-Stevens Point.
