Millikin Baseball Sweeps Illinois College

The Millikin baseball team swept a doubleheader at Illinois College in impressive fashion on March 21 in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Big Blue won game one 16-2 and took the second game 20-0. Both games were called after seven innings.
 
In game one, Millikin collected 18 hits and eight walks scoring 16 runs in seven innings. Millikin scored in every inning including six runs in the seventh inning.
 
Freshman Sam Bushur was one of four Big Blue hitters to collect three hits in the game. Bushur was 3-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Tyler Gade was 3-5 with a double and two RBI. Liam McGill was 3-4 with a double with two RBI and two runs scored. Senior Sean Miller, making his first collegiate start, went 3-4 as the Big Blue designated hitter. Kyle Gibson had two hits including a double.
 
Drew Detmers was the winning pitcher improving to 3-1 on the season. He pitched five innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out eight. Sean Shook pitched one perfect inning. Drew Sutton pitched the seventh inning allowing one run on two hits.
 
Jon Tate had two hits including a home run for Illinois College in game one.
 
Millikin jumped out early in game two scoring three runs in the first inning, four in the second and three more in the third to up out to an early 10-0 advantage. The Big Blue added five more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. Millikin had 14 hits and drew 10 walks in game two.
 
Tommy Shaw led the Millikin offense going 3-3 with a double and a three-run home run. Shaw drove in five runs and scored four. McGill had two hits including a double. Freshman Nolan Czako went 2-2 at the plate with a double and a three-run home run. Busher, Andy Niebrugge and Ryan Janssen each had two RBI in game two.
 
Landon Johnson was the winning pitcher for Millikin throwing five shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out five. Millikin held the Blueboys to just three hits in the game. Christian Badorek and Jacob Bailey each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
 
Millikin is now 12-5 while Illinois College falls to 4-11.
