Big Blue Offense Keeps Rolling

The Millikin baseball team offensive outburst continued in a 10-2 win at Fontbonne University on March 22 in St. Louis, Mo. Including the Big Blue sweep at Illinois College on Tuesday, Millikin scored 46 runs in three games played in less the 36 hours.

The 46 runs in three games in the most runs scored by the Big Blue since 1999 when Millikin opened the season scoring 63 runs in its first three games. That outburst was spread over a ten day period. Scoring 46 runs in 36 hours, while not an official record, is undoubtably a very rare feat.

Millikin scored seven runs in the first two innings against the Griffins with two runs in the first and five in the second. Tyler Gade led off the game with a home run. Kyle Gibson walked, stole second and later scored on a run scoring groundout from Andy Niebrugge.

Freshman Sam Bushur continued his hot hitting opening the second with a double. He would later score on a wild pitch. Gade added a two-run single along with RBI singles from Tommy Shaw and Ryan Janssen.

Millikin's final two runs came in the fifth on an RBI double from Janssen and a pitch hit two-run home run from Kelby Golladay. Janssen finished the game with three hits.

Matt Wilson improved to 3-0 pitching five innings allowing one run on eight hits. Max Simpson pitched three innings in relief allowing a run on one hit. Aaron Agee closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

Matt Helms and Dalton Groves each had two hits for Fontbonne.

Millikin is now 13-5 on the season while Fontbonne falls to 11-8.
