Softball Downs Two Minnesota Squads in Florida

The Big Blue softball team matched up against a pair of Minnesota squads on Thursday, March 23 in Winterhaven, Fla. and picked up two victories.

In game one against St. Catherine, Addison Sargent picked up the win in the circle, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing just three hits.

Millikin got on the board right away in the first, taking a 2-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Leah Foreman and Lanie Chizmark scoring on a Wildcat error after a bunt off the bat of Maddy Regan.

St. Catherine answered in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, but the Big Blue added four of their own in the bottom half of the inning. A Foreman single scored Rylee Blake then Anna Enlow's single scored pinch runner Mackenzie Mazzocchi to knot the score at 4-4. Kelsey Tinder stepped to the plate for a pinch hit at-bat and delivered an RBI groundout, scoring two.

The Wildcats once again had an answer, scoring two runs in the sixth then another in the seventh to take a one run lead. Aundrea Jenkins delivered a walkoff double to left center to plate Kendallyn Davison and Katie Detamore to seal the Big Blue victory by an 8-7 margin.

Enlow went 2-for-3 in the game, and Jenkins was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple.

After a quick turnaround, Millikin matched up against Gustavus Adolphus, winning 6-2 as the visitors on the scoreboard. The Big Blue once again put a run on the board early, scoring Chizmark on an Enlow infield single. The Lions tacked on two of their own in the first to take the lead.

In the top of the second, Blake singled up the middle to score Jenkins, then a Davison single to left center scored Detamore in the third. Millikin added another run in the third when Kaylee Goluch drew a bases loaded walk, then two more when Blake singled up the middle to score Jenkins and Lex Tennison.

Aly Armstrong was credited with the win on the mound, pitching a complete game and striking out eight while only allowing four hits.

Enlow and Foreman each went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two.

Millikin will return to Clermont, Fla. on Friday, March 24 for matchups with UW-Whitewater and Trinity College (Conn.) as they continue their week at The Spring Games.
