Softball Defeats UW-Whitewater, Trinity College on 2-0 Day in Florida

The Millikin softball team continued their time at The Spring Games on Friday, March 24 with matchups against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Trinity College of Connecticut. The Big Blue went 2-0 on the day, defeating Whitewater 7-1 and Trinity 12-1 in six innings.

In game one, Millikin struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Maddy Regan laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Rylee Blake. In the third, they added two more, with Blake crossing the plate again on a single off the bat of Leah Foreman and Regan tallied another RBI when Foreman scored.

Whitewater added a run of their own in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1, but MU had an answer, scoring two runs in the fifth on a Warhawk error. Two more runs crossed the plate in the sixth with Kaylee Goluch scoring on a wild pitch and Blake scoring her fourth run of the contest on a Lanie Chizmark groundout.

Blake and Aundrea Jenkins each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Big Blue.

Aly Armstrong picked up her sixth win of the season in the circle, striking out five and allowing just five hits in a full seven innings of work.

In game two, the Big Blue were the visitors on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the first inning on a sarifice bunt by Foreman. Kendallyn Davison singled to centerfield to plate a third run.

Trinity's Taylor Mikolajczak sent the first pitch of the game over the left field fence for the lone run the Bantams scored in the game.

In the third, a Davison triple to right center scored Regan and pinch runner Mackenzie Mazzocchi. A single off the bat of Lex Tennison plated Davison, then Goluch sent a triple to right center to plate Tennison. A delayed steal by Goluch put the Big Blue up 8-1.

In the sixth, a Lauren Argo infield single scored Blake, then an Anna Enlow double in the right center gap plated Chizmark. An RBI groundout by Davison scored Argo, then Enlow scored on a wild pitch to record the final run in the 12-1 victory.

Regan and Davison each went 2-for-3 at the plate for Millikin.

Addison Sargent picked up the win, allowing three hits and striking out three through four innings of work. Charly Warlow provided two innings of relief in the six inning game, allowing one hit and striking out three.

Millikin will head to Clermont, Fla. for their final day of action at The Spring Games on Saturday, March 25 when they match up against St. Olaf College and Tufts University before heading back to Decatur.
