Softball Beats St. Olaf, Felled by #13 Tufts on Final Day in Florida

The Big Blue softball team took the field for a final time on Saturday, March 25 for matchups with St. Olaf and #13 Tufts in Clermont, Fla. Millikin defeated St. Olaf 12-4 in the first game before falling to the Jumbos of Tufts by a 0-5 margin in game two.

The scoring once again started in the first inning for the Big Blue against St. Olaf. A Leah Foreman single up the middle plated Rylee Blake, then Kendallyn Davison delivered a single through the left side to score Foreman to give MU a 2-0 lead.

St. Olaf notched a run of their own in the third inning, but Millikin answered in the bottom half of the inning. Davison recorded another RBI when pinch runner Chloe Book scored on her single to right center. With the bases loaded, Lanie Chizmark drew a walk then Foreman was hit by a pitch as the next batter to give MU a 7-1 lead. Blake later scored on a wild pitch, then Maddy Regan cleared the remaining baserunners with a double to left field to further the Big Blue lead to 10-1.

The Lions rallied in the sixth to extend the game, plating three runs, but the Big Blue plated two of their own to end the game in the sixth on an inside the park home run off the bat of Regan and a Kaylee Goluch single that scored pinch runner Katie Detamore.

In the game, Regan and Davison each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Addison Sargent picked up the win in the circle to improve to 5-3 on the season, pitching 5.0 innings and striking out five while allowing four hits. Charly Warlow provided an inning of relief.

Against Tufts, the Jumbos struck first in the first to take an 0-2 advantage, then three more in the fifth.

Regan went 2-for-3 at the plate for Millikin, and Aundrea Jenkins was 2-for-2 with two doubles.

Millikin returns to the Workman Family Softball Field on Saturday, April 1 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin doubleheader against North Central College.
