Millikin Softball Rolls over North Central in CCIW Openers

The Big Blue softball team matched up with the Cardinals of North Central College on Saturday, April 1 for their opening College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin doubleheader of the 2023 season at the Workman Family Softball Field. Millikin defeated NCC 13-2 in the first game, then took game two as the visitors on the scoreboard by a 9-1 margin.

Millikin plated the first runs of the game in the first inning, with Leah Foreman singling to score Rylee Blake. An Anna Enlow single up the middle scored Lanie Chizmark, then Foreman crossed the plate when Kendallyn Davison reached on a fielder's choice. Lex Tennison singled to score Maddy Regan, then Davison later crossed the plate on a Cardinal error to put Millikin up 5-0. 

Kaylee Goluch sent a solo homerun to right center to lead off the fourth, swinging on the first pitch to extend the Millikin lead to 6-0. Enlow singled to left, scoring two more runs, then a Tennison single down the left field line scored two more. Aundrea Jenkins singled to plate two more, then Goluch's second at bat of the inning resulted in a single that scored Jenkins to extend the lead to 13-0.

In the top of the fifth, NCC's Katie Del Re doubled to plate two runners, but Millikin held the 13-2 victory to end the game in five innings. 

Aly Armstrong earned the game one victory, allowing no hits through 4.0 innings of work and striking out five. 

Enlow went 2-for-2 at the plate, Tennison was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, and Goluch tallied a 2-for-3 statline with two RBI. 

Millikin got on the board in the first again in game two, with Blake and Chizmark reaching on back-to-back hits, then Blake crossing the plate on a wild pitch. Regan's triple to left center scored Foreman and Chizmark, then she later scored on a wild pitch. Davison sent a homerun to right field to put Millikin up 5-0 again after the first half inning. The Cardinals would put up a run of their own in the bottom of the first, with Del Re scoring on a Talia Torosian single up the middle. 

In the fourth, Blake walked, then advanced to second on a first and third situation, giving Jenkins the opportunity to steal home. Regan once again notched two RBIs on a double to left field, scoring Foreman and Chizmark. Kelsey Tinder stepped up to the plate and singled to left field, scoring Regan to put Millikin up 9-1. The Big Blue took care of business in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to end game two in five innings and move to 2-0 in CCIW play, 13-7 overall.

Addison Sargent earned the game two victory, allowing four hits through 4.0 innings of work and striking out two. Charly Warlow pitched one inning of relief, allowing now hits and striking out one.

The Big Blue will play at the Workman Family Softball Field for the second weekend in a row on Saturday, April 8 when they match up against conference foe Augustana for a 1:00 & 3:00 PM doubleheader.
