Millikin Baseball Rolls in CCIW Opener

The Millikin baseball team opened play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) with a 12-0 win over Carthage College on April 1 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Pitcher Matt Wilson was in control all game for the Big Blue throwing seven innings allowing no run on five hits while striking out nine. Wilson is now 4-0 on the season.
 
The Millikin offense continued to roll scoring two runs in the third before breaking the game open with an eight run fourth inning. The Big Blue added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning.
 
Millikin pulled off a double steal in the third putting two runners in scoring position. Kyle Gibson then delivered with a single to score both runs.
 
The fourth inning was dominated by freshman Sam Bushur. Bushur opened the inning with a double and scored two batters later on an RBI single from freshman Cayden Silvester. Bushur would bat again in the inning this time closing out the Millikin scoring with his first collegiate grand slam. Gibson had an RBI walk in the inning and Tommy Shaw delivered a two-run double.
 
Silvester and Andy Niebrugge each had two hits in the game for Millikin. The Big Blue had five stolen bases in the game with Tyler Gade and Gibson each stealing two bases and Liam McGill stealing one.
 
Millikin is now 15-6, 1-0 while Carthage falls to 5-10, 0-1. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, April 2 starting at 12 p.m. at the Workman Family Baseball Field.
