Millikin Baseball Splits with Wheaton

The Millikin baseball team split a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader with Wheaton College on April 15 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois. The Big Blue won game one 4-1 with the Thunder taking the second game 6-4.
 
Junior Matt Wilson pitched the Big Blue to victory in the game one throwing a complete game allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out seven.
 
Millikin used its speed to score a run in the third. Kyle Gibson walked to open the inning. Gibson was sacrifice to second and then stole third. He would score on a base hit from Tommy Shaw.  The Big Blue made it 2-0 in the fourth Andy Niebrugge tripled to open the inning and scored on a base hit from senior Keagan Brady.
 
Wheaton's run came in the fifth. Jacob Snyder walked to open the inning. Snyder was going with the pitch and scored all of the way from first on a single from Tyler Weiner.
 
After a double steal in the seventh, Shaw scored on a sacrifice fly from Sean Shook. The Big Blue scored another insurance run in the eighth. Brady had his second RBI single of the game to drive in the run. Shaw, Ryan Janssen, Niebrugge and Brady each had two hits for Millikin in game one.
 
Millikin lead 4-0 after four innings in game two. Wheaton tied the game with a four run fifth inning. The Thunder took the lead with two runs in the eighth. Noah Yi had a sacrifice fly and Ben Weaver had a run scoring single.
 
Gibson and Sam Busher each had two hits for Millikin. Gibson, McGill, Shaw and Brady each collected an RBI.
 
Weaver went 3-5 for Wheaton with two RBI. Yi, Matthias Haggerty and Joe Klein each had two hits for the Thunder.
 
Millikin honored nine seniors in ceremonies prior to the twin bill. Those recognized included pitcher Aaron Agee, Brady, pitcher Caleb Buehrle, utility player Sam Butler, pitcher John Collins, first baseman Sean Miller, infielder Hunter Smith, outfielder Troy Vorwald and infielder Alex Zogg.
 
Millikin is now 21-9 overall and 7-3 in the CCIW. Wheaton is 14-13, 6-5.
