Baseball Falters in Extras against Webster

The Big Blue baseball team matched up against the Gorloks of Webster University on Tuesday, April 19 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Ill. After the game was knotted at 5-5 at the end of the ninth, Millikin fell in the 10th in a 6-7 contest.

Webster started off the scoring in the second inning, recording two runs on a Mitch Daniels single to left center. Daniels crossed the plate on a Caleb Zbrozek single to left.

The Big Blue found some offense of their own in the bottom of the inning, first with a two RBI triple to right center off the bat of Ryan Janssen, scoring Kelby Golladay and Sam Bushur. The next at-bat, Andy Niebrugge sent a ball over the right field fence to plate Janssen and give Millikin a 4-3 lead.

The Gorloks answered in the fifth when Evan Evola's infield single scored Daniels to tie the game at 4-4.

In the seventh, the Big Blue regained the lead when Kyle Gibson stole third, then an errant throw by Webster allowed him to cross the plate. But a Big Blue error would tie things up once again in the eighth, helping send the game to extra innings.

The Gorloks scored two in the top of the tenth, both coming on walks issued with the bases loaded.

Millikin's Golladay singled through the right side to plate Liam McGill to pull within 6-7 in the bottom of the tenth. With one out and the bases loaded, the Big Blue were unable to rally and fell to the Gorloks.

The Big Blue will be back in action on Saturday, April 22 for the first two games of an imperative three game College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin series against the Vikings of Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.
