Softball Rolls Thunder in CCIW Doubleheader Sweep at Wheaton

The Big Blue softball team continued their two-doubleheader road trip in the Chicagoland area with a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin sweep of the Thunder of Wheaton College.

In game one, Millikin took a 4-2 win over the Thunder, starting the scoring off in the first inning when a Leah Foreman double to center scored Rylee Blake. Kaylee Goluch added a second run with a solo homerun over the centerfield fence in the second inning.

Maddy Regan laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Lanie Chizmark in the third, increasing the Big Blue lead to 3-0. Wheaton cut the lead by scoring a run of their own in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double off the bat of Paige Andrews, but Millikin had an answer in the fourth when Goluch doubled down the left field line to score Kendallyn Davison.

Wheaton tacked on another run in the sixth to cut the MU lead to 4-2 on a solo shot by Alese Antonello, but Millikin took care of business in the seventh with Charly Warlow on the mound in relief to take the game one victory.

Warlow earned her second save of the season, allowing just one hit. Aly Armstrong tallied her tenth victory of the year, striking out 10 and allowing just four hits in the win.

At the plate, Chizmark and Goluch each went 2-for-3.

In game two, Millikin picked up a 6-2 victory as the home team on the scoreboard.

The bottom of the second saw the Big Blue score three runs, starting when Davison's single scored Anna Enlow. A Goluch double down the left field line plated Lex Tennison and Davison to give MU a 3-0 lead.

The Thunder tallied a run of their own in the third with an Olivia Nahorniak homerun to left field. Millikin answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Enlow sent a homerun to right field that also plated Foreman.

Millikin tacked on one more run in the sixth when Foreman's double to left field scored Blake. Wheaton rallied to plate one in the top of the seventh.

Enlow went 3-for-3 at the plate and Goluch was 2-for-3, tallying two RBI apiece.

Addison Sargent earned the win in the circle, tossing 5.0 innings, striking out two and allowing just one hit. Warlow pitched two innings in relief, striking out three and allowing one hit.

With the sweep, the Big Blue move to 19-7 overall, 8-0 in CCIW play. Millikin sotball will return to the Workman Family Softball Field for three straight doubleheaders, starting with a CCIW matchup against Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday, April 19 at 4:00 & 6:00 PM.
