Millikin Baseball Sweeps at North Central

The Millikin baseball team swept a doubleheader at North Central College on April 7 in Naperville, Illinois. The Big Blue won game one 2-1 and took the nightcap 9-0. It is the first sweep against the Cardinals since May 5, 2007.
 
Millikin won game one 2-1 behind a great pitching effort from three Big Blue hurlers. Starter Matt Wilson improved to 5-0 on the season throwing seven and two-thirds innings allowing seven hits while striking out five. Max Simpson came in and recorded an out in the eighth inning. Senior Aaron Agee picked up his sixth save of the season getting three outs in the ninth. Agee allowed the first two Cardinal batters to reach before getting two strikeouts and a groundout to end the game.
 
Millikin's two runs came in the second inning. Tommy Shaw and Sam Bushur had back-to-back singles to open the inning. After a successful sacrifice bunt from Sean Shook move both runners into scoring position, catcher Ryan Janssen delivered a two-run single. Bushur and Kyle Gibson each had two hits for Millikin.
 
Justin Rios had an RBI single for North Central. John Michael Scumaci had two hits.
 
The Big Blue continued to get stellar pitching in game two shutting out the Cardinals and holding them to five hits. Starting pitcher Landon Johnson was the winner pitcher throwing six innings allowing only four hits with five strikeouts. Simpson pitched two thirds of an inning allowing one hit. Drew Sutton pitched the final two and one-third innings holding the Cardinals without a hit.
 
Millikin got on the board in the third inning. Andy Niebrugge opened the inning with a single the first of his three hits in the game. Gibson had an RBI ground out and the Big Blue scored on a wild pitch.
 
Millikin scored two runs in the fourth on two bases loaded walks with Cayden Silvester and Gibson picking up the RBIs.
 
The Big Blue broke open the game in seventh with three runs aided by two North Central errors. Shaw had a sacrifice fly and Niebrugge picked up a run scoring single. Millikin's other run scored on a wild pitch.
 
Dom Listi had two of North Centrals five hits in the game two.
 
Millikin is now 19-7, 5-1 while North Central falls to 12-9, 1-5.
