Big Blue Baseball Tops Titans

The Millikin baseball team improved to 6-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action winning at Illinois Wesleyan 6-4 on April 8 in Bloomington, Illinois.
 
Millikin is now 20-7 overall and in first place in the CCIW standings. Illinois Wesleyan falls to 7-15, 3-3.
 
Big Blue third baseman Kyle Gibson has been hot since moving into the leadoff spot a few games ago. He went 3-4 to lead the Millikin attack against the Titans. Gibson led off the game with a single. Liam McGill then reached on a Titans' error. After the Big Blue pulled off a double steal, freshman Sam Bushur drove home Millikin's first run with a single. The Big Blue second run in the first inning scored on another Illinois Wesleyan error.  Millikin had five stolen bases in the game.
 
The Titans tied the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Louis Perona and a sacrifice fly from Cade Tomhave.
 
Tyler Gade doubled in the third inning and scored on another Bushur RBI single to make it 3-2 Big Blue. Andy Niebrugge homered in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 4-2. The Titans scored on a Millikin error in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-3 Millikin.
 
Millikin would get an RBI fielders choice from Kelby Golladay in the fifth and a home run from Cayden Silvester in the sixth to go up 6-3.
 
Tristan Figus had an RBI in the ninth to make it 6-4. Jalen Ping had two hits for the Titans.
 
Drew Detmers (5-1) was the winning pitcher throwing six and two-thirds innings allowing two earned runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts. Sean Shook earned the save throwing two and two-thirds innings giving up two hits and one run.
