Millikin Baseball Wins in CCIW Tournament Opener

The Millikin (26-15) baseball team posted a statement win in the first game of the 2023 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Tournament defeating North Park University 19-2 in seven innings on May 10 in Moline, Illinois.
 
The number three seed Millikin will now face the two seed North Central College on Thursday, May 11 at 6 p.m. at Augustana College in Moline. The Cardinals (26-12) won its opening round game 15-5 over Illinois Wesleyan. The top seed Augustana won its opening round game 11-1 over Carroll University.
 
Millikin left little doubt of the outcome of the game in the first inning scoring 14 runs. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam by freshman Cayden Silvester, a two-run single and a two-run triple from catcher Ryan Janssen. Millikin leadoff hitter Kyle Gibson batted three times in the inning reaching twice on walks and hitting a triple. Gibson had two stolen bases in the inning including stealing home to score Millikin's first run.
 
Janssen finished the game with three hits and five RBI. Liam McGill, Andy Niebrugge and Tommy Shaw also had three hits and two RBI each. Niebrugge homered and scored four runs. Gibson was 2-2 with three walks. Kelby Golladay and Lucas Ryan each had two hits.
 
Drew Detmers was the Big Blue starter pitching three innings allowing one unearned run on two hits. Aaron Agee was the winning pitcher in relief allowing one hit and one earned run in two innings of work. Drew Sutton threw a scoreless inning in relief.
 
Reece Arakaki and Alex Divito each had two hits for the Vikings accounting for four of North Park's five hits in the game.
