Big Blue Baseball Falls in CCIW Tournament

The Millikin baseball team lost to North Central College 6-5 in the second round of the 2023 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Tournament on May 11 in Moline, Illinois.
 
Millikin (26-16) will now play at 11 a.m. on Friday in an elimination game against Illinois Wesleyan (19-22) in Moline.
 
Millikin opened the game with a run in the first. Kyle Gibson singled and went to second on a walk to Liam McGill. Sam Bushur loaded the bases with a base hit. Tommy Shaw then drove in the run with a ground out.
 
North Central responded with five runs in the bottom of the first. The inning was highlight by a two-run single from Jared Wojcik.
 
The Cardinals led 6-1 heading into the fifth when the Big Blue scored twice. Gibson singled followed by McGill walk to open the inning. Andy Niebrugge had an RBI ground out followed by an RBI single from Shaw. McGill had a two-run single in the eighth to make it a 6-5 game.
 
Gibson went 4-4 to lead the Big Blue offense. McGill and Shaw each had two hits. Relief pitcher Max Simpson gave Millikin some much needed innings throwing five and one-third innings allowing no runs on three hits.
 
Wojcik had three hits to lead the Cardinals followed by Dom Listi with two. Ryan Behling was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals.
 
North Central improves to 27-12 and will face the number one seed Augustana on Friday.
